Let’s get real! I, like many other bloggers, started blogging as a hobby and that’s very cool but… there comes a time when you’ll like to take it to the next level and that is making money with your blog.
I have hobby blogged for some time and now it is all about the coins! My advice to new bloggers who would also like to make money with their blogs is to start right off the bat.
I’ll tell you why…
Being able to make money from blogging is a long long game based on a plan and strategy you must stick to get results.
There are bloggers who started making money by their first, second or third month.
These situations are rare and 90% of the time, it happens for bloggers who have blogged before.
I started making money in my 4th-month blogging and probably could have pulled that off a lot sooner if I took my blog seriously from the jump.
So the reason why you are better off monetizing your blog from the start is that making a full-time income from blogging is a lot of work and even takes time.
Realistically, you may have to blog for about 7 – 9 months before making money.
In as much as generating income from your blog is the goal, you need another superpower to keep you sane through this… that’s some patience.
In the beginning, you have to focus more on writing amazing pieces of relevant content that people want to read. That is the bedrock of a blog with an income-generating potential.
** You won’t be making any money if you are solving no problem.
Let’s get into it!
How to make money blogging for beginners
First of all, do you have a blog? Are you still thinking about going for it or not? Do you need reasons why you should start a blog right now?
Or you have decided you want to blog and just need the step by step guide to creating your blog?
Don’t pass up on the opportunity of making money online with your blog. There’s hardly anything to regret about it.
1. Affiliate Marketing
What is affiliate marketing? Simply put, affiliate marketing is the act of promoting products and services by various manufacturers to your readers/audience.
How this works is by joining affiliate marketing programs and including links to products and services in your blog posts and pages.
When they buy something through your link, you make money in commission. If they don’t, you also don’t make money.
These two platforms offer varied products from different manufacturers most blog niches can link to.
How To Make Money With Affiliate Links
- Write a blog post about the pros and cons of the product or service
- Include affiliate links on a resource and recommendations page
- Add banners at the top and bottom of your website pages or blog posts
- Put an affiliate banner in the sidebar of your website or blog
2. Sponsored Blog Contents
Another way bloggers make money is by producing a sponsored blogposts for brands. A sponsored blog content is a promotional post you write, typically including links and photos of a product to be reviewed for a fee or gift.
Bloggers get paid a lot for sponsored content. Some fashion bloggers earn up to $1000 or more publishing sponsored content for brands.
The amount you get paid is most times based on your authority within a niche, your reach, and engagement.
How To Attract Brands For Sponsored Contents
- Have professional looking self-hosted blog
- Create relevant posts in your niche
- Build your traffic up
- Promote your blog on social media
- Join platforms that offer sponsored contents like IZEA and BlogHer
- Send an email to a brand’s PR team stating your interest in working together
3. Display Ads
Display advertising is a method of attracting the audience of a website, social media platform or other digital mediums to take a specific action like clicking to purchase a product or for brand awareness.
Utilizing display ads is the most passive way to generate income as a blogger.
All you have to focus on is creating relevant content to attract more readers because, with display ads, your revenue is dependent on your blog traffic first and some other factors.
The more eyes you have on your blog, the more you make money.
There are different options for display ad companies to join. These companies either give you a script code to insert on pages you’ll like ads to appear on, or you give them access to your website’s backend and they get it all set up for you.
Some bloggers are not a big fan of this because ads can make your blog look cluttered but it makes you a lot of money so I’d still go for it if I were you.
Popular Display Ad Companies To Join
- Media Net (free to join)
- Monumetric (requires at least 10,000+ page views in the last 30 days to qualify)
- Mediavine (requires at least 25,000 sessions in the last 30 days)
- Ad Thrive (requires at least 100,000 page views to join in the last 30 days)
I am with Mediavine and my experience with them has been amazing. The last 3 mentioned pays the most per RPM (per 1000 pageviews).
4. Selling Digital Products
Selling digital products is a great revenue-generating method for bloggers. Bloggers make thousands of dollars just doing this alone.
When bloggers have become fully experienced in their niche, they can create a downloadable product for their audience.
Something that solves a common problem for them all.
You can figure out what your audience needs the most by looking at your most popular blog posts. It gives you an idea of where your audience could use a bit of help.
