Have you heard the saying that blogging is dead in 2020? If you have, I want to tell you not to believe it. If you believe it, I will show you the reasons why you need to start a blog now.
Blogging has been in existence for a while now, long before social media and like everything digital, blogging has gone through a lot of transformations.
Blogging is not dead. It has evolved!
Those who say blogging is dead say so because of the rise of social media apps that make it easier to reach millions of people so why go through the ‘stress’ of blogging?
People blog because certain kinds of information can only be searched for. Blogging will remain relevant for as long as Google and other search engines exist.
You will not go to Instagram to search for the health benefits of a fruit or go to search for how to file your taxes as an entrepreneur.
And because there are different methods of doing certain things, your opinion will always matter as far as it is helpful enough to solve a problem.
Let me give you the reasons why you need to start blogging now.
1. To Help People
You may be someone who is very learned in a particular field like parenting, business, fashion or beauty products and feel like other people could benefit from your knowledge.
Blogging is an avenue where you can share your opinion on varying topics to help other people.
It feels very good when someone leaves a comment on my blog letting me know I have helped them.
This alone makes blogging very rewarding for me.
2. Blogging Can Be Therapeutic
Have you heard about journaling before? The idea that writing down your thoughts in a journal is a way to release those thoughts thereby making you feel lighter and better.
You can start a blog and treat it as such as a way to share your personal stories and lessons with your audience.
Most of these style of blogs fall under the self-care and personal development niche.
3. Enhance Your Writing Skills
Blogging helps you improve your writing abilities as a content creator. When you start blogging, you will figure out the style and language that works for your audience.
Writing as a content creator is a very useful skill to have and this skill can be transferable from your blog to a workplace and vice versa.
I know my writing has improved from when I first started blogging in 2018.
4. Make Passive Income Online
This is one of the most popular reasons why people start blogging if I’m going, to be honest. This is not why I started but I wouldn’t knock anyone for it.
We all have to pay bills one way or the other. However, having a true passion for blogging will take you much farther in the end.
You can make passive income (from $xx – $xx,xxx a month) from blogging in so many ways but affiliate marketing is one of the easiest forms.

5. Build An Online Support Group
Blogging consistently draws like-minded people to your blog that can relate to what you speak about.
For example, a person that blogs about the lifestyle that surround a chronic illness they may have will pull in people who face the same challenges.
It’s a way to find people who can relate to your situation and everyone could use a support group even if it’s virtual.
It could be a weight loss journey or everyday life as a college student as long as you are able to solve problems in those areas or answer questions.
6. A Way To Learn Technical Skills
I personally relate well to this because I got my first two corporate jobs from being a blogger who had garnered web management skills from running a website.
In my spare time, I like to create new blogs and websites while learning basic HTML and CSS coding.
You don’t have to get so technical about running a simple blog. I was just curious and wanted to figure out what goes on behind the theme functions.
7. Become An Authority In Your Niche
The more you establish yourself in your niche and provide useful tips that solve the problems of your audience, the more you get recognized.
Becoming an authority within your niche could open doors for you that transcends beyond the blogosphere.
You may even get invites to share your thoughts at public speaking events, score a brand collaboration or create products people can buy because your words are true, tested and trusted.
These are all amazing reasons to start a blog in 2020. Blogging is not dead and will only continue to evolve with time. So why miss a chance to help people and make money while you do it?
